PEDIATRIC SURGERY DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS


FOOD:                                Clear liquids-water, apple juice, Gatorade, ginger ale, Pedialyte or breast milk-may be offered in the first few hours after operation.  Resume regular food later in the day.


ACTIVITY:                          Quiet, Restful activities are recommended for the first 24 hours.  No gym for 2 weeks and no organized sports for 2 weeks.


BATHING:                           Tub bath tomorrow (5 minutes).  A sponge bath with washcloth is OK.


SURGICAL SITE:                Surgical site closed with surgical glue-no stitches visible-glue will wear away-do not try to rub it off.  Remove any outer dressing in 2 days.


PAIN MEDICINE:                Tylenol or Motrin as directed every 4-6 hours.  See Medication Reconsiliation sheet.


WATCH FOR:                       Fever over 101, bleeding, wound redness spreading under the bandage or glue, drainage, difficulty urinating or taking fluids on the first day.


OFFICE APPOINTMENT:     Your child needs to be seen in the office in 14 days.  Please call 315-464-2878 anytime if you have questions, and the same number day or night if you need to talk to a doctor.
